Fishing - Animated Scary Story

You're about to hear happened many years
ago when I still lived in a small town
in rural Japan
in the middle of summer it was too hot
to sleep in my small apartment so almost
every night I would wander down to the
road to the overpass and cast a line in
the river under the bridge
here I would tend to contemplate whether
or not this small town was right for me
and if I should consider moving on
it was much cooler there
the concrete having been in the shade
all day and the peaceful sound of the
water flowing made it a really enjoyable
experience
even though I was all alone
well
at least I thought I was
on this particular night as I gazed into
the water these simple nothing's on my
mind I started to see what I was sure
was a human face
for some reason I couldn't look away and
was transfixed with the vision in front
of me
it slowly rose up and then it left
nothing to the imagination it was a
human face the face of a dead old man
still I couldn't look away until
hello dear a voice from behind me broke
the cool silence and almost made me jump
out of my own skin
a turn to look behind me and my blood
ran cold completely on edge not knowing
what to expect next
the figure's eyes glowed white in the
Moonlight
and a small dark silhouetted figure that
just stood
stared at me
can I help you I asked getting ready to
dive into the water if necessary to get
away from this thing
and then the figure removed her Hood
and revealed a happy little old lady
and she smiled at me and asked have you
caught anything my husband used to come
here to fish he never came home with any
so I would always have to go to the
market for him
until one day
he didn't come home at all
the fact that she was still smiling at
me as she told me this story scared the
life out of me
and I really didn't know what to say
apart from
no I haven't caught anything
I never do and then I turned back to
look at the water and look down
to see the face slowly submerging itself
back
dark Waters
slowly
out of sight
when I turned to look back at the lady
she was gone
she had completely vanished it seemed as
I desperately looked around in all
directions
I then packed up my gear
and walked back to my apartment
still in somewhat of a daze as I
ascended the steps to my floor
and you can imagine the horrible shock
that I felt
when I saw a large half-dead wet fish
lying
on my doormat
I quickly looked off the balcony to see
if the person who had dropped it there
was still in sight
and sure enough and to my horror the
little old lady was across the street
standing under a street light
staring at me
I quickly ran into my room and hid under
the covers
even though it was a fiercely hot night
I didn't dare emerge until dawn
and when I did I had not slept
I was drenched with sweat
the next day I made arrangements to
leave my job and move to another part of
Japan
a place with a bit more variety and
opportunity
and we could pass and I hadn't seen the
old lady again since that initial night
so on the evening before my move I
strolled down to the River's Edge again
but then
there she was again
standing right under the bridge where I
would fish
just
staring at me
as I approached her her eyes turned an
even brighter white and she hissed at me
bearing dozens of thin knife-like teeth
like a feral cat defending its kill
terrified of what I was seeing and
voluntarily paused while I waited for my
legs to catch up to the signals my brain
was sending
then I bolted out of there as fast as my
feet could carry me
and then the cherry on top
or more like the straw that broke the
camel's back for me
as I arrived back at my apartment
there was a note stuck to my door
it said in Japanese in no uncertain
terms to get the hell out of here
it was pretty clear
that I wasn't welcome
I didn't need to be told twice
I grabbed what I could packed up the car
and then drove all through the night
the way back to Tokyo

a few weeks later when I was settled in
a new job and a new apartment my old
colleagues reached out to me to tell me
that it was fortunate that I had moved
on
why I asked
well mere days after my exit a minor
earthquake had hit the area
not an uncommon occurrence and nothing
on a scale that had worried them
however the only damaging curd was to my
old apartment building
and to the bridge where I used to go
fishing
it had been completely destroyed
oh
and they informed me that out of this
damage there had only been one fatality
a little old lady
who was crushed
when the bridge fell
I guess
guardian angels work in strange ways
