During the school Excursion for nagalkahigh school Rita and her friends Naomiand erina finally had a chance to jumpin the lake for a swimthey were the only three going in as theother students were tired after a longhike and chose to relax on the shorethey splashed around and they venturedto the father's side of the lake eventhough they were told not toas they got out the girls were talkingabout the most popular boy in classkamoharuNaomi was explaining how great he was atbaseball when she stopped dead in hertracks and let out an eardrum shatteringscreamyou do Naomi shouted in Japanese Ritawas the most confused lunch erina lookedlike maybe she understood but beforeRita could ask her Naomi turned aroundand became obvious what was happeningthe girls quickly rushed to help theirfriend Arena ripped it off her andquickly Threw It To The Ground the largeblood-sucking leech moved slowly in thewet mud its dark slimy skin glisteningin the afternoon's Sunonce they had returned to the other sidethe teacher Mr Ito promptly came overand scolded them for swimming too farand for making an unnecessary commotionlater he fished out three leeches andput one in each jar for the girls totake homethey needed to get used to them andlearn there were bigger problems in theworld to be concerned about than simpleparasitesthe girls were quiet for the remainderof the daythat night the girls were back to beingchatty and turned to other things thatcreeped them out as they sat in front ofthe firehuddled into a Social Circlethe girls were all screeching andgiggling just after a scary story Camp they had no ideaand after a whilethe teacher's side and told them theycould gothey left the room but soon Naomiremembered that she had forgotten herschool bag and rushed back to theclassroom the teacher and the principalwere talking so she stopped near thedoorthe principal was sayingwe don't know where she disappeared tono one does I can't understand itthe teacher replied her friends weretotally fine and they have no ideathere was a pause thenno one has seen her since last night theprincipal noddedNaomi was frozen missing she wanted toscream but her throat was suddenly dryand she couldn't make any noises herbreath was becoming short and she feltshe had to get out of thereshe ran all the way home and when shegot home she was restless with sick andworryshe stared at the leech in the jar onher table Mr Musashi had been rightthere were bigger things in the world tobe worried about and she realized she nolonger feared the repulsive leechhe felt he should let Rita know what sheoverheard at school but before she couldshe drifted off to sleepit wasn't long before she suddenly wokeup to the sound of the leech flailingaround in the jar on the table in herroomit seemed to be growing largerand wanted outa hot flash of anger washed over her andshe dumped the leech out onto the floorscreamed and then stomped back she couldthen hear the daughter in her parentsroom openshe had some explaining to dosimilarly at Rita's house the leech hehad brought home from Camp was alsohaving a restless nightRita looked at the Shadows Dancing OnThe Ceiling when she realized what hadwoken herthe leech in the glass jar that she hadbeen given was flailing around wildlyand smacking against the glass wall ofthe jarshe had never heard of such behavior andwent to move to turn on the lightbut she couldn't moveshe couldn't move at allthe sound of the leech tapping on theglass added to her stress of beingparalyzed in place[Music]she put forth a great effort to sit upbut still lay there helplessly[Music]her eyes darted to the jar and the leechlooked like it had doubled in size asthe glass had begun to crack now she wastrying with all her might to flail andmove but only one finger managed to moveand tap on the bed[Music]the jaw had shattered to pieces andthey're now even larger leech-likecreature seemed to be moving towards hershe cried with all her might to screambut only managed a small bell the leechwas slithering up the side of her bedand starting to touch her leg she triedto recoil but to no avail was this fromwithin her or was the leech-likecreature causing the paralysisher fingers tapped on the bed morerapidly and earnestlynow there was a banging on the windowthat she didn't want to look were moreof these creatures comingthe leech was even larger now and itmoved all the way up her leg and wasinching towards her stomach she couldfeel it's dry yet slimy flesh pressingagainst her hungrily searching forsomewhere to suck out her bloodit was the sound of a window smashingand she knew she was done for shefinally was able to screamthe creature visibly reacted to thesound and did it shrink a little too shestarted again trying to move and it feltlike for a second she was going to butthe paralysis took hold again as thecreature started moving further up andover her bosomanother scream came from the windowsside and this time Rita gained hermovement again she whipped her head overto the window and found that Naomi wasstanding there looking at the horrificblack blob slithering along Rita's bodythe scream definitely was hurting thecreature and Naomi noticed it must hatenoise she shouted and the two girlsstarted screaming continuouslywas able to throw the creature to thefloorthey're screaming at the creaturewrithing in pain as it became smallerand smaller and just then read hisparents burst in and the dad yelled whatthe hell is going on the two girlsstopped yelling for a minute and theleechling seemed to regain its powerit leapt right at the dead and into hisgaping mouthmom yell Rita screamed as Naomi and herstarted screaming again the mum wasfrozen and stared in Horrors the blackcreature was wriggling its way into thedad's throat finally she managed toscream and join the girls the creaturewas losing and started to shrink andcome back out of the dad's throat thedead was choking but didn't seem to beable to pull the creature out theparalysis must have been setting intohimwhen the creature was small enough hefinally took a deep breath and startedscreaming too the leech was almost itsnormal size again and Richard swatted itout of her dad's mouth and Naomipromptly stomped on the creature puttingan end to itafter no one moved for a long time nordid they say anythingthis time there was no kanashibadi justhorrorand the realization of the Frailty oflifeat that point Arena burst through thedoor and everyone shrieked into lightyou're safe exclaimeritaI'm too late I came to warn you are youokayyou started inching towards Rita was sorelieved but yet somethingdidn't quitefeel rightshe started writhing in pain and hermouth swung open as if to scream butnothing came out suddenly shefrantically jerked and blood fleweverywhere as her body violently turneditself inside outthey now stood before one of the Lichmonsters we just screamed again thistime to no effect reader's fatherinstinctively kicked at the leechcreature and managed to boot it offbalance and down the stairwellfled around downstairs before slitheringout of the open front door Rita's fatherquickly followed it outside and wastedno time in grabbing the ax from his woodpile and swiftly hacked into it as itride aroundhe continued to chop into it until itwas satisfied that he would no longerappearthe girls came outside and stood aroundthe bloody mess in complete shockthe leech slowly melted away into thesoil Without a Traceit was overA year had soon passed and although theymissed Amina life had returned to nostrange Phenomenon with the leeches wasnever fully explained and it was quicklyforgottenthe real tragedy here though is thateven once we think an issue is resolvedunder the surface looks deeper anddarkera huge thanks to all who
